Download Windows Vista Service Pack 1
Very interesting - but seeing Vista SP1 doesn't work yet (or it would be auto downloaded for you..) you take your chances ... Beware!!!!
I'm sure this probably works, until MS change it - but even though it is the legitimate product (or The Real McCoy) it's still a DUD. It's a REAL Microsoft product that is a DUD. Don't need to get a shonky version from some third world country hell hole - Microsoft will provide you with the LEGITIMATE DUD. It may work on some computers Microsoft has said ... that's why they released it to manufacturing .. in the biggest PR stuff-up since Kraft started killing Australian kids with their peanut butter - then said "No we're not! No need to recall the product. A few kids are still alive.." - and they thought everyone had forgot by now.. Windows Horizon (Windows 7) concept - desktop face plate ...
Based somewhat on the way Windows Media Center works ... but Media Center is only included as part this .. which is Windows Control Center. (I believe Media Center should handle ALL media, music, video, etc, and Windows Media Player should be dropped - Media Center is more elegant.) Search should be at the bottom of screen, but I have text description there at present. (That's PC or Net search)
The big logo is not part of the screen ... it's a blow-up of the little logo bottom right.
Program folders should be left in Explorer and only the .EXE shortcut placed on the Windows Control Center movable strip. And JUST the program name, not with the .exe attached, and no 'shortcut to..' or shortcut arrow.
Everything the USER creates should be stored in folders under their user name - ie, Graham > has sub-folders Documents, Pictures, Music, Graphics, Smiley's, User Data, Settings, Mail, Stationary, Video, Movies, TV Programs, yada, yada, yada ... so if you ever need to move to a new computer, you just copy USER Name (Graham) with all the sub-folders. Saves having to look around for something's you left behind - or before you reformat the HD. Programs installed are a separate problem - MS can figure out - Hey!, just rename the lot - Windows.OLD :-) (They still got their old registry, come on, tell us? Or did you merge with the new?)
( Well .. I stated something, didn't I? I'm waiting for Vista to copy a file — it may take a couple of days :-) )

Microsoft relents: Vista SP1 available to technical users now
On February 11, responding to customer unrest, Microsoft announced it will make Vista Service Pack (SP) 1 available earlier than it originally promised. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ *Not poor suckers like me though .. :-( I paid Aust$180 for Vista Home Premium Academic Upgrade at Harvey Norman, Morley, Western Australia on Day 1 of release at 9:30 am. Although it's been many a moon since I went to study anything, that's the only version they are selling in West (Australia?) And I think the reason is that it's price is lower than the normal version and Microsoft OVER PRICED Vista in Australia. They could hardly discount the normal version on day 1 to their 1st customer, could they. So they pushed the cheaper Academic to save face. (I even made a video and uploaded it to YouTube!) Please don't let me go down in history as the biggest sucker of all time... :-( Anyway, Office Works in Morley, WA, are now selling that version for Aust$175 AND — WAIT FOR IT — PAYING YOU $75 TO INSTALL IT!!!!!! That's right folks, you get a "Bonus $75 voucher for installation#" (But you have to buy a stamp apparently.) #Cashbacks and bonuses via redemption from supplier. Postage/redemption charges apply...
So, now they can't give VISTA away for Aust$100 ...
Vista - copying files almost impossible
If you are trying to copy files in vista be prepared to wait the whole day ...
It is next to impossible ... no progress will be made! Oh, yeah, it did take 5 long years to make this .. :-)
Don't let anyone who coded (stuffed up) Vista work on Windows 7 - except the GUI people and designers.
THE Windows 7 guy
Well, there is another guy too, but he's under the bonnet, and does not count. If we can't see it, we can't judge whether to buy it, or not. Blue car - not the motor. (OK, it's Jon DeVaan - Core Operating System Division. Happy.) Steven Sinofsky - THE Windows 7 guy
Steven Sinofsky, the Windows 7 and "Live" guy believes in the rhythm method of 'there is always another version'. That's fine - as long as you are only going to slug us the Windows ME $98 upgrade and not the Windows Vista $180 upgrade. Plus, there is somewhere to put the "Windows OLD" that stuff you up if you don't do a clean install. "..Delivered just three years after Vista, Windows 7 will only serve to prepare the fertile soil for Windows 8. And in this regard, Windows 8 will bring on the true Windows evolution, with Windows 7 being somewhat of a more modest release..." Just the $98, but don't turn the product into Windows Vista ME... And don't call it Windows Live .. -------------- Thank you MSBob, that's to be expected - no one really sees the design till late in the day. There's a lot to do. Well, hopefully, there's a lot to do! (MSBob - rumored to be "Deep Throat" or StevenSi, an insider from Microsoft. OK, it's Marketing!) -------- Let's not forget the design team that took five months to design the Vista wireless icon ...ROFL. Cutting the 3 green bars to 2 was a stroke of genius .. :-) (Sleepless in Seattle, no doubt!) So, it the mean time, we'll just keep on making it up ... — do more Than Before
"Illusions commend themselves to us because they save us pain and allow us to enjoy pleasure instead. We must therefore accept it without complaint when they sometimes collide with a bit of reality against which they are dashed to pieces." -- Sigmund Freud
*Just remember that Windows is an international product, don't put any US eccentric stuff in.
---------- If you're wondering what happened to the codenames of Vienna, and before that Blackcomb, which were originally attached to the OS, Windows senior VP Steven Sinofsky has banished those ciphers name as a sign of his desire to refocus the team on the steak rather than the sizzle. It's in keeping with Sinofsky's previous reign over Office 2000, XP/2002, 2003 and 2007 - all of which were known only by their internal version numbers (such as Office 2007 being ‘Office 12') before being christened with a marketing label.
*You have to remember that business relies on numbers, they feel happy with numbers, they love numbers ... $$$$$$$$$. However the person in the street needs dreams - dreams of desire, of longing, of romantic fulfillment - of something new, something Shangri-la - on a lost HORIZON.
It's fine for the Windows 7 team to focus on the 'steak' because that is what they are hired to do. However, the great unwashed demand to see smoke on the horizon ... And selling the 'sizzle' and not the steak is the retailer ...
Marketing has to sell the 'odour' to create the 'drool' to get you to the 'sizzle' to buy that tough piece of steak!
You just don't get hungry and desire in the street without a tempting aroma wafting though the air. -- Give the public some tit-bits. Then you start to drool. -- Make us want to buy it - and can't hardy wait. (Only what is certain.) We will be there on the doorstep to see the sizzle.. -- Retail point-of-sale Once we are home with the steak, we'll install it -- and then ---- let the heartache begin -- UNLESS YOU'RE DONE A GOOD JOB.

Introducing Harry Beck... The striking Tube map that is recognised across the globe was the brainchild of Underground electrical draughtsman, Harry Beck, who produced this imaginative yet stunningly simple design back in 1933. Beck based the map on the circuit diagrams he drew for his day job, stripping the sprawling Tube network down to basics. The result was an instantly clear and comprehensible chart that would become an essential guide to London - and a template for transport maps the world over. The 2008 map
The tube map is the schematic diagram representing the lines, stations, and zones of London's rapid transit rail system, the London Underground. As a schematic diagram it shows not the geographic but the relative positions of stations along the lines, stations' connective relations with each other and their fare zone locations. The basic design concepts, especially that of mapping topologically rather than geographically, have been widely adopted for other network maps around the world. People don't buy cars for dual carb's, whiz-bang engine mod's, or ABS breaks for extra safety — THEY BUY THEM BECAUSE THEY'RE BLUE - have auto windows, air conditioning, chrome hubcaps and a good steering wheel! — do more Than Before

--- People are driven by what they can hear, see, smell, touch, and taste. It doesn't matter how many changes you make to the core of Windows: if it doesn't look and act dramatically different, people won't feel like it is. February 7, 2008 --- I agree with what this guy is writing about - but the one actually charged with doing something about it at Microsoft is — That Windows 7 Girl!
and here she is ....
Julie Larsen-Green: she changed the way Office 2007 looks and works, and now she's got the same job on the Windows Horizon (Windows 7) team.
Eight hundred million people and some Chinese are counting on you Julie ...

Google Notebook knock-off of EverNote???? Windows 7 should get ..
Is Google Notebook an EverNote clone or what? Maybe they licensed the concept. I use the free version of EverNote and have for a long, long time. They only bother you about every three months with a pop-up on Vista start, to upgrade .. just click NO. Very civilised I think. EverNote - something unique and useful
Whichever or whatever, it's a MUST HAVE feature for Windows Horizon (Windows 7) being so Net - Windows Live .. ish! "Keeping the dream alive ..."
