When I bought the cheap (Aust $276) AOC 22" monitor I also bought (on impulse) a Microsoft Wireless Laser mouse 6000 for Aust$48.

My screensaver and 'sleep' in Vista then stopped working.

I naturally BLAMED the monitor ... The mouse is Micro$oft.

Who knew a Microsoft product does not work with a Microsoft product.

Don't know if this fixes the SLEEP problem yet, but set the screensaver to 1 minute - and it IS now working.

Many (millions suggested on Net) people having problems:: (Some here suggest USB to PS/2 adaptor works)

*Ofcourse the only update I have not applied to Vista is *HID Non-User Input Data Filter*** I should have know from that clear description that it meant fucking Microsoft mice don't work with Vista!*

SYMPTOMS
When you use a Microsoft wireless pointing device that uses Microsoft IntelliPoint software on a Windows Vista-based computer, you may notice that the screen saver of the computer does not work even though it is configured to run.

CAUSE
This issue may occur if the PCM and DVDLauncher services are running in the background. The PCM service is used to start media programs faster. The DVDLauncher is a program that is used for DVD playback.

RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, plug in a wireless receiver, and then check for updates. To do this, visit the following Microsoft Windows Update Web site:
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/)
Install the Optional Hardware Update that is named Microsoft HID Non-User Input Data Filter.

And you should see what you leave in the Registry. You shit all over everything in your Operating System. A reg cleaner usually finds 70 to 700 problems and/or temp links left behind.

AND, if YOUR idea of an upgrade is, after 5 fucking years, wrapping XP in a brown paper bag - all of it - installing Vista and dumping the bag marked "Windows old" on the 'C' drive tree, then you couldn't program your way out of a paper bag .....

Microsoft makes $49.4b Yahoo bid

Microsoft Corp says it has offered to buy Yahoo Inc, the popular web portal, for $US44.6 billion ($49.4 billion) in cash and stock, seeking to join forces against Google Inc in what would be the biggest internet deal since the Time Warner-AOL merger.
Microsoft offered to buy Yahoo for $34 per share, a 62 per cent premium over Yahoo's closing stock price on Nasdaq. Yahoo shares jumped to $34.11 in pre-market trading.

"We have great respect for Yahoo, and together we can offer an increasingly exciting set of solutions for consumers, publishers and advertisers while becoming better positioned to compete in the online services market," Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer said in a statement.
Yahoo was not immediately available for comment.

The company has been losing market share to Google and warned earlier this week that it faced "headwinds" in 2008, forecasting revenue below Wall Street estimates.

Windham Financial Services chief investment strategist Paul Mendelsohn says a deal makes sense.
"Yahoo is having a really tough time competing against Google. Whether it's a good price, I can't see anybody else who is going to outbid Microsoft," he said.
Microsoft said it had identified four areas that would generate at least $1.1 billion in annual synergies for the combined entity.
Tim Smalls, head of US stock trading at brokerage firm Execution LLC, was less enthusiastic about the benefits of a tie-up.
"[It is] shocking. To me, the premium seems exorbitant for what is a dwindling business. I personally don't see how the synergies of Microsoft-Yahoo is going to take on Google," he said.
